Preparations [for Nekomata]

Schön has been busy, lately, meeting with various proprietors of Nexus businesses. As he steps out of one of the clothiers and finds the pace of the foot traffic, he issues a quiet summons: "Nekomata, I would speak with you. Kindly attend me at your earliest convenience." The course he winds through the crowd sends him toward the edge of the residential district, close to the parklands, where gloom has been gathering and deepening for weeks.

Schön has some experience with cattish people, and will scratch behind her ears if she lets him. It's usually a good remedy for feline sads, in his experience.

"Not just to invite you, my dear, you will be working. Both in your capacity as a host, and as a spy. A certain rival of mine may attend: I would like you to watch him, listen to him. If he makes trouble, I would like you to divert his attention, or come to get me if it escalates to force."

Nekomata seems somewhat startled by this display of affection and her tails curl upward while her golden eyes slip half closed in what can only be described as 'happy kitty' stance. She doesn't purr, but her mood seems to have improved quickly.

"Hosting bones cages...well, can't be that hard. Especially nyot if I get to play super secret spy Nekomata at the same time. Got it. Sexy costume for maximum attention diverting, mya. Shiny things to distract and coming for permission to hunt if there's a problem. Sounds like fun master~ Nyaaaa I need to get a costume by tonight? Tomorrow? It's so soon."

He relents in the scritches, knowing cats well enough to know you stop while you're ahead, before they get annoyed and bite. "It is soon," he admits, "but I have every confidence in your resourcefulness."

"Do you want me to match? I'll get a sexy version of whatever you're going to wear Myaster. unless that would blow my cover. Super secret spy Nekomata must remain hidden in plain sight, nyaaa." Finger guns are hard to make when you have paws, but she is trying.

Ears flat while she imagines her prey. Then they perk up.

"Who is your rival anyway? Is it a human? Why don't we just kill them?'

"It is the Mobian mage, Ixis Naugus. He wants to provoke a confrontation with me, and fails to understand the subtleties of duels between magi. There are also mutual acquaintances to consider--the satisfaction of defeating him is not, on its own, worth the cost in lost esteem elsewhere. So I need to know more."

"Do they know about mye? Lure him somewhere we can break the field and let leash the cat of war myaaaaaa!" She ponders this for a moment, and then sobers up again. Or seems to at least. "Unless he's a higher level than me nyaa. Don't send me to die or I'll haunt you forever."

"I don't know precisely what he's capable of," Schön answers, "which is why I need to know more before making a substantive move. I want every piece in place before he realizes how long he's been in check."
